The common question we are asked is:

“Why not just use any certified electrical contractor for the safety check in the first place?”

There are a number of reasons:

1. Some electrical contractors are good at installing and not trouble shooting.
2. Some cannot do the transition from residential wiring to commercial installations.
3. In my experience as an Electrical Inspector, some contractors only checked the obvious and did not do a thorough and complete analysis of the installation. This sometimes led to the obvious issues being corrected and other safety concerns missed.
4. A lot of contractors are either too busy or do not want to do this type of safety check. We at Phase One Consulting Services do exclusively electrical inspections and make it a priority to the client to do it in a timely manner.
5. Some Insurance companies will not accept a safety inspection checklist unless the contractor is registered with them and on their list as approved to do so.
6. One obvious reason is the bias that could be involved. Electrical Contractors have a financial stake in doing the repairs. They do not have the time to do a free estimate based on the amount of time it would take to do a thorough inspection. Therefore they may suggest doing an hourly rate inspection. This is exactly what we at Phase One Consulting Services do exclusively. We have no hidden agenda, only to give you all the facts you need to know on the state of your electrical system. Our team Leader was also an Electrical Contractor for 17 years, prior to his tenure as an Electrical Safety Inspector. Once our report is complete we have no other stake in the procedures.
